image of employeesBy now, many individuals have unfortunately given up on their New Years resolutions. Did you know that the majority of resolutions are related to health and fitness? So, giving up on those resolutions means that people are often falling back into old, unhealthy habits. As a business owner, there’s plenty you can do to assist your employees with their health-related goals.

Why is it your job to inspire your employees to live healthy lifestyles? Beyond proving that you care about their personal lives, healthy individuals are often more productive, with sharper focus and fewer missed days due to illness and/or doctor visits. The following tips may prove helpful for your staff.

  • Make it a challenge: Creating a bit of a challenge brings out people’s competitive side and just may be the inspiration needed to shed those pounds. Create a goal and offer a reward for the first team or department to reach it. Not only does this help with fitness, but it also doubles as a team building event.

  • Team effort: If competition is not the style in your workplace, try making it a group effort. Organize lunchtime walks, walking meetings, after-work yoga classes and more. Joining together as a group to meet fitness goals is also a much stronger motivator than working out alone.

  • Provide options: Some people are too overwhelmed with the variety of fitness options that they aren’t able to settle on a plan of action. Create a short list to help narrow down the selection. Perhaps your company can partner with a local gym to offer your employees a discounted membership, giving them a good, affordable option that’s hard to turn down.

  • Educate your staff: With so much processed and boxed food available, some people simply don’t know much about healthy eating and how it contributes to good health. Offer seminars taught by fitness and nutrition professionals that your employees can attend for free to gain the knowledge they need to live healthier lives.

Showing your employees that you support their health and fitness goals is a great benefit of working for your business. Ready to offer more employee benefits?
